Information on the activities undertaken on the main roads after the floods
Due to the unfortunate events caused by heavy rains and floods that hit our country on the night of 03/04 October 2024, and acting on the order of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications, and on the basis of the order of the Civilna zaštita FBiH, JP Ceste FBiH as the manager of the main road network in FBiH immediately took all measures to establish interrupted road traffic towards Mostar, Blidinje, Sarajevo and Prozor and engaged the maximum number of routine maintenance contractors on the affected sections to provide cleaning services, assistance to the citizens in the endangered areas and enable road traffic in the shortest possible time.
Coordinated by the representatives of JP Ceste FBiH, led by the director and members of the Management Board, HP Investing d.o.o. Mostar, KTM-Brina d.o.o. Posušje, Ceste d.d. Mostar and Sarajevoputevi d.d. Sarajevo put maximum efforts and made available both machinery and human resources, in order to rehabilitate severely damaged road sections ant to eliminate the consequences of landslides and large drifts, in the shortest possible time.
The situation was particularly difficult on the main road M17 Konjic - Jablanica - Komadinovo Vrelo, primarily in Donja Jablanica, where a large amount of the rock material collapsed on a local neighbourhood and the main road, which unfortunately resulted in human casualties.
Given that the search for missing persons is still ongoing, thus along the main road itself, where heavy machinery and a large number of rescuers, police officers and civil protection personnel are engaged, the decision to open this road to traffic will only be made when all conditions are met, in agreement with the competent services of the Ministry of Interior, CZ and the Municipality of Jablanica.
Given the degree of damage of the main road M17.5 Jablanica - Blidinje, this section remains suitable for off-road vehicles solely.
In parallel with the activities to establish traffic on the main roads M17, M17.5 and M16.2, the employees of JP Ceste FBiH made a site visit of all affected locations and compiled the evidence of damage. In case of landslides and accumulation of rock material due to the floods, the contractors for routine maintenance were given the instruction to rehabilitate in such a way that unstable material was removed from the slopes and pavement cleaned.
In case of major damage, sites were marked with temporary traffic signs.
Based on a multi-day site visit of severely affected locations, conducted monitoring and identification of the places for investigative activities (i.e. boreholes installation), a ToR was drawn up and an urgent bidding procedure was initiated for the procurement of detailed designs of rehabilitation. The field works on the basis of which the optimal technical solution for repairing the damage will be selected have already started on 10 October 2024.
After selecting the technical solution, the designers will provide the design documentation as soon as possible, after which the procedures for selecting the contractors and the works supervision will be immediately initiated.
